The Nuclear Physics Group

The Nuclear Physics Group has a membership of almost 400 and its committee is involved in the organisation of a number of activities on behalf of the nuclear physics community in the UK, whether they are active researchers in universities, in industry or other IOP members with an interest in nuclear physics.

Among the principal activities of the Nuclear Physics Group are the organisation of half- day meetings at various venues around the country on topics which are relevant to its members. There are typically three such events per year. The Group is also responsible for organising an annual three day conference during the Spring. These conferences provide an opportunity for the UK community to meet and to hear plenary talks on topics of interest to researchers in the field as well as talks on the applications of nuclear physics in other areas. Often a number of overseas speakers are invited. They also provide an opportunity for the younger members of the community to present their research work during parallel sessions.

The group also oversees the organisation of an biennial two-day study retreat during Autumn as well as the EPSRC Postgraduate Summer School in nuclear physics.
