History of Physics meeting on 18 September 2004

A Joint Open Workshop of the IOP and EPS Committees for the History of Physics organised by Denis Weaire (Trinity College Dublin), and Jacques Treiner (ESPCI)

Saturday 18 September   Main meeting 09.45 - 18.00

The morning session will be devoted to science museums, outreach etc, including a talk by E Guyon (former director of the Palais de la Découverte).

Lunch will be taken in some of the nearby restaurants.

The afternoon will be devoted to talks on prominent personalities from various periods, including Néel (JMD Coey), together with some discussion of plans for the International Year of Physics (Einstein Year 2005).

Sunday 19 September

The morning is free for delegates to explore the area, while the committees discuss future events.

It is intended that walking tours and visits will be organised for the Sunday afternoon ending about 17.00.

* L’Ecole Supérieure Physique, Chimie Industrielle (ESPCI) is in the Latin Quarter of Paris, close to metro stations Censier Daubenton, Luxembourg etc, and a variety of good hotels.
