Early Career Members Group

The Early Career Members Group focuses specifically on early career members and aims to provide a means to improve early career support as well as providing a forum for discussion.

The Group looks to represent the views of Early Career Members to the IOP and external bodies.

The Group will focus on a number of areas; namely:

  • Building networks of peers – across disciplines and sectors including industry, education, academia and business.
  • Putting early career members in touch with those in a position to support them.
  • Supporting early career members to understand career options and think about opportunities in industry, academia, business teaching and other career paths
  • Supporting early career members to develop skills, e.g., networking, writing funding applications, conducting effective outreach.

The group aims to also serve as a gateway for early career members into the IOP and directing them towards other special interest groups and activities that would be of interest to them.

The activities of the group are aimed at those who are at the level of having completed their first degree and are early in their professional career, including PhD students and Apprentices of all levels. The Group is open to all who feel that the ECM group will be of support to them and we especially welcome those who have taken a career break, or are on a none standard career path.
