List Server

The list server functions a little like a bulletin board, but perhaps rather more effectively in that those posting a comment or query do so directly to all members of the group, by an automatically 'server' broadcast email, whithout those other members having to visit a 'bulletin board' web site.

According to this facility each member of the group can email their query to a designated address which will result in it being broadcast to all the group's members. Each recipient can then choose to 'bin' or reply to the query.

The advantage of a list server over a bulletin board is that all the group's members are immediately made aware of the query without the effort of having to log onto a bulletin board, out of general curiosity, to see what has been displayed. The disadvantage is that each member receives the query whether they want to or not.

You committee believes that there will not be so many frequent queries that, in general, members will be unduly bothered by their arrival. They expect that the availability of the facility to its members will outweigh the slight inconvenience of a few unsolicited queries from fellow EPG members. We hope you agree. However, if you do find them annoying you can be removed from the list of those partaking in the scheme by emailing your wishes here.

To use this facility send an email stating your query. The email must state that it is a query for the EPG List Server and quote your name and Institute of Physics membership number.

There may be a delay of a few days before it is relayed to 'all ' EPG members.
