The HSBC and Institute of Physics Award for the Very Early Career Woman Physicist of the Year
We are delighted to announce that the Women in Physics Group will announce and present the award for the 2008 £1000 HSBC prize to the winner of the Very Early Career Woman Physicist of the Year at a special student event on the afternoon of Wednesday 20 February.
The prize is awarded annually to a woman who is within three years of completing her undergraduate degree in physics and who is either working as a physicist or is engaged in postgraduate study. Please see Forthcoming Events for more information about the forthcoming award ceremony.
The Women in Physics Group are delighted to congratulate Jocelyn Bell Burnell on becoming a Dame, and Ann Marks (previous Chair of the Women in Physics Group) on her MBE.
Young female physicist, Liz Ainsbury, receives prize for leukaemia
Young physicist Liz Ainsbury has been rewarded by HSBC and Institute of Physics for her research in magnetic field physics. She has studied whether there is a link between extremely low frequency magnetic fields and health effects such as childhood leukaemia.
