The Physics and Law Group

Law is increasingly important to physicists in the modern work place, whether in the context of the commercialisation of aspects of research, spin-out businesses from universities or the application of physics in different fields. Those fields occur in traditional research and development, both industrial and academic, and especially include multidisciplinary activities. However, this trend is common throughout all types of science and technology, and reflects the increasing role that the application of science and technology plays in our everyday lives.

As law defines the interaction between us all in everyday life, the group seeks to explore the interaction of various fields of law with physics including: intellectual property law, commercial law, consumer-protection law, environmental law, health and safety and forensics.

Special Features: The group maintains close links with the Institute of Electronic Engineering, the British Computer Society and other groups of the Institute that are interested in the interaction of physics with other fields, such as commercial and business activities, including: the Consultancy Group.

So, if you have not already done so, now is the time to make your presence, and your interests felt - by joining us. This is done very simply by contacting the Institute's Membership Department
