CMMP09

The annual Condensed Matter and Materials Physics (CMMP) conference is the national UK conference for condensed matter and related physics. Sponsored by the Condensed Matter and Material Physics Division of the Institute of Physics, CMMP is a major event in the UK physics calendar. This year, CMMP09 will be held at the University of Warwick, from 15 - 17 December 2009.

In the conference:

  • Plenary lectures, given by internationally recognised speakers.
  • A wide range of symposia with both invited and contributed talks. The final programme will include symposia reflecting your contributions.
  • Poster sessions enabling scientists to present their work in an informal and convivial setting.

The conference will cover all areas related to condensed matter and materials physics, including

  • superconductivity
  • magnetism and spintronics
  • semiconductor physics and devices
  • graphene and carbon physics
  • nanoscale physics and technology
  • surfaces, interfaces, and thin films
  • theory of condensed matter
  • strongly correlated systems
  • statistical physics
  • soft condensed matter and biophysics
  • computational physics of materials
  • low temperature physics
  • dielectrics
  • metamaterials, photonics and plasmonics
  • materials for energy

Major themes will include:

  • Energy
  • Nanomagnetism
  • Matter under extreme conditions

Student participation

CMMP has always provided a forum for students to present their work, either in symposia or in poster sessions. There will be prizes for the best student contributions, including a poster prize awarded by the students themselves. This year the traditional student-day activities will be embedded within the main conference programme, with special introductory lectures scheduled on the major themes.
