Each year the Schools Physics Group, working in co-operation with the Education Group of the Institute, organises a one-day meeting at Rugby School for teachers of physics in schools and colleges, and in training. Whilst most come from England and Wales a few come from further afield and all are very welcome from independent and state schools and colleges alike.
The next meeting, the 21st Annual Meeting, will take place on Thursday 4 June 2009 from 9:30 until 16:10.
Conference fee will be £30 per person (includes lunch and other refreshments). Concessionary fee of £15 for NQTs, PGCE and GRTP trainees. A meeting notice with booking form will go out to schools from the Institute of Physics at around Easter time.
Up to 200 physicists attend each year. The main purpose of these meetings is to bring together physics teachers from both the state and the independent sectors to learn about the latest developments in physics and physics education.
Each year we have keynote lectures given by leading research physicists and by physics education experts.
There are hands-on workshops where you can pick up new ideas and resources.
We have open discussions where you can make your own opinions known and see how others are dealing with the latest issues and changes.
We offer the chance for exchanging news and information via poster displays.
The meeting also provides an opportunity for equipment suppliers, publishers and awarding bodies to demonstrate their new products.

At the June 2004 Annual Meeting for Teachers of Physics in Schools and Colleges at Rugby School Dr Averil Macdonald of Reading University gave the audience an insight into her IOP Schools Lecture 'Fantastic Plastics'. Many asked for details of how the demonstrations could be done, what materials were needed and where to get them from. 'Fantastic Plastic Tricks and Recipies' provides those details, together with COSSH assessments, safety and first aid tips.
