Recording your career development
Professional Development for Members - Using www.PD-How2.org
This site has been co-written by the Institute to provide guidance for anyone at any stage of their career. Many career development guides place too much emphasis on professional registration as a CEng or CPhys. This website has been written to correct this imbalance and, while there is information on professional registration available on it, it is confined to one page, as can be seen below.
- Initially you will find it useful to read through the page on 'How to use this site'.
- Then work your way through each of the sections in the Quick Start Guide.
- The Professional Development Cycle provides an easy to understand introduction to the process of career development and what you can expect to gain from each of the 5 stages.
- For those members who were taking part in PFDS, the page containing forms is optional. You may wish to continue using the Institute's own forms, and these can be downloaded here. For those members who are new to record keeping, the pd-how2 forms will provide excellent templates with which to start. The worked example refers to the competences for CEng only, while the blank forms leave the competence space blank.
- The competences for CPhys can be found here, or you may wish to design your own or to use your company framework.
- For those members who do wish to attain chartered status, you can find additional guidance here . The Institute's guidance can be found here.
- If you are unsure of any of the terms used in this website, you should look them up on definition of terms page.
