NPL

The National Physical Laboratory is the UK’s national measurement institute and is world-leading in developing and applying the most accurate measurements available to support trade, innovation and improving quality of life. We provide the standards and traceability that ensures measurements can be made reliably and reproducibly.

NPL offers a variety of practical, application-based training courses; seminars and workshops designed to improve skills and competences in metrology and related technological and scientific areas. The span of technologies offered is very broad ranging from optical and laser technology to mathematical and scientific computing, with courses available to help promote best practice, ensure regulatory compliance or just extend knowledge. The courses include:

  • Audiometric Calibration Techniques course
  • Calibration of Acoustical Instruments
  • Physiotherapy Ultrasound: Output Measurements workshop
  • Underwater Acoustic Calibration and Testing
  • A Practical Course in Reference Dosimetry
  • Uncertainty Estimation in Radiological Measurement
  • MTDATA Various Introductory course and Advance courses: An introduction to the calculation of phase equilibria based upon critically assessed thermodynamic data
  • Developing Advanced Scientific Engineering Spreadsheet Applications
  • Development of Virtual Instruments
  • Understanding and Evaluating Measurement Uncertainty
  • CMM Verification to ISO 10360
  • Force Calibration and Uncertainties
  • Gauge Block Measurement by Interferometry
  • Mass and Weighing course
  • Laser Safety For Freespace Optical Communication Systems
  • Laser Safety Standard (EN60825-1:2001*)
  • Measurement needs of Photometry and Spectroradiometry
  • Measurement needs of Spectrophotometry and Colorimetry
  • Temperature Measurement and Calibration
  • Humidity Measurement and Calibration

The level of the course is aimed is a variety of levels including technicians and technical managers who are concerned with calibration or quality assurance. The courses are either run depending on demand or at set dates. More information, or to register an interest, can be found at www.npl.co.uk/training/
