In the Higher Education White Paper, published in June 2011, the Government announced that Professor Sir Tim Wilson, former Vice Chancellor of the University of Hertfordshire and Board member of the Higher Education Funding Council for England, had been asked to perform a review as to how best to achieve the Government’s intention.
In a letter acknowledging receipt of the report, Secretary of State for BIS, the Right Hon Vince Cable MP, and the Minister for Science and Universities, the Right Hon David Willetts MP commented that the report highlights a significant number of areas of University-Business collaboration where much good practice already exists in the UK, but also makes an important number of new recommendations regarding key ways in which such collaboration can be yet further strengthened.
The R&D Society will be hosting one of the very first public debates regarding this very important review report on Thursday 29 March 2012, from 17:00 to 20:00 followed by drinks reception.
Sir Tim will present his report followed by short presentations and a discussion by a panel of leading Vice Chancellors and industrialists representing both blue-chip and SME companies.
The panel includes Professor Sir Leszek Borysiewicz, Vice Chancellor of the University of Cambridge, Professor Brian Cantor, Vice Chancellor of the University of York, Dr Christopher Beale at Rolls-Royce Plc, and Dr Trevor Francis, CTO of Byotrol, a high-growth SME.
