The award provides prestigious validation of the innovative application of physics and its impact. It brings value to both the company and the team involved in realising the innovation:

  • raising company, subsidiary and/or team profile, boosting motivation amongst the team
  • increasing confidence in the business innovation, especially with new customers
  • providing collateral to enhance funding and investment applications for future developments
  • highlighting that the company excels in the commercial application of physics, useful evidence to attract recruitment of talented, young physicists

Upon winning the award, your company will receive a trophy and an e-trophy for use on marketing material.  The company will attend and exhibit at a Parliamentary reception, providing an opportunity to showcase your innovation and network with funding agencies, key industry figures and MPs (T&S costs funded by IOP). You will also receive an invitation to the IOP Award’s dinner, and there is the opportunity to bring key employees to celebrate their success. Your company and its award winning innovation will be highlighted in IOP marketing material and social networks. The IOP will give you the opportunity to present at relevant meetings and conferences, increasing your profile across the IOP network. You’ll also be able to participate in our new Business Innovation and Growth Group, making the connections that will help to make your business even stronger.

The award is aimed at companies that can demonstrate excellence in the innovative application of physics to a product or service, leading to:

  • Business improvements or growth in terms of turnover or job creation; or
  • Substantive societal and/or other impact as a result of the innovation

The company or a subsidiary must be based in the UK or Ireland.
