Business Start-Up Award

Call for applications now closed. The Start-Up Award recognises young companies with a great business idea founded on a physics invention, with a great growth potential and or the potential of significant societal impact.

The award is a quality seal for your product and validates that the physics and its implementation is sound and that the business concept has merit. It will help you and your young company by:

  • improving the confidence future investors and customers have in your company and product
  • potentially paving the way for future funding and sales
  • providing constructive feedback from seasoned business leaders from the judging panel
  • raising the profile of your company’s and its product

Winning the award will bring a number of benefits. You will receive a trophy and an IOP e-trophy that you can use on your website and printed material. Importantly, you will also get access to IOP business support.  
You will have the opportunity to attend and showcase your product at a Parliamentary reception where you can network with funding agencies, key industry figures and MPs (T&S costs funded by IOP). You will also be invited to the prestigious IOP Awards dinner, and your company will be highlighted in IOP marketing material and social networks. The IOP will give you the opportunity to present at relevant meetings and conferences, increasing your profile across the IOP network. You’ll also be able to participate in our new Business Innovation and Growth Group, making the connections that will help to make your business even stronger.

Your company has to be incorporated in the last 5 years, either in the UK or Ireland. You must be beyond the prototype stage that proofs functionality provide a sound business plan aiming to make a profit.
