Bioptica

Bioptica is a consultancy specialising in the safety of lasers and of other sources of optical radiation. We provide independent, professional support to designers, manufacturers and users of laser technology in industry, science and medicine.

Our services

• Laser safety training
  We provide specialised on-site training courses designed to develop understanding of laser hazards, to promote good working practices, and to explain the effective use of protective controls. These courses are tailored to meet the specific needs of our clients, and extend from general awareness training to advanced hazard-assessment courses. We also run regular London-based courses in laser safety which are organised in conjunction with the Institute of Physics.

• Safety management
  We assist users in the safe implementation of laser technology by providing applications advice, by carrying out hazard evaluations, and by giving practical guidance on the adoption of safe working procedures. We undertake risk assessments and can help to develop documented policies for laser safety. We can also be retained to act as an organisation's laser safety advisor on a longer-term basis.

• Product compliance
  We help manufacturers of laser equipment to meet national and international safety standards and to comply with product safety requirements. These requirements can include classification, labelling, user information and engineering safety features. For UK and other European manufacturers who wish to export laser products to North America, we can advise on US compliance issues and prepare product submissions for CDRH (FDA).

Our Market

Bioptica provides laser safety support in all areas of application, and has extensive experience of the safe use of lasers in industry, telecommunications and medicine. Our clients extend from other SMEs to multi-national corporations. We can also advise on the safety issues of equipment incorporating LEDs, high-intensity lamps, and other sources of visible light, ultraviolet or infrared radiation.
