3 Minute Wonder Competition Northern Heat

13 January 2016

Saturday, 6 February 2016, 15:00 at the Lit & Phil, 23 Westgate Rd, Newcastle upon Tyne NE1 1SE.

3 Minute Wonder is a competition where each participant has three minutes to pitch their research to a panel of four judges and an interested but non-specialist public audience.

The research should be original and the speaker may choose to use:

  • 1 PowerPoint slide
  • A video clip (that the presenter has made)
  • As many props as the speaker wishes

The competition is open to early-career researchers working in any physics-related subject, ie researchers, including those in industry, who are within the first 12 years of their career (allowing for career breaks) following the award of a first degree.

If you would like to enter, and have a chance to win £200 and a prestigious national prize, head over to www.iop.org/3mw and enter - there have to be at least 10 entries for the entries to count towards the National Finals, so don't hesitate to get involved!

This event is free and open to the public; we encourage you to bring family and friends along to what will be an informative and entertaining bout of physics-oriented fun! The presentations will be aimed at an interested non-specialist audience, giving all those present the opportunity to learn about cutting-edge physics.
