Cleveland Institution of Engineers celebrates 150 years

15 December 2014

The North East Branch of IOP was pleased to be invited to help our friends at the Cleveland Institution of Engineers celebrate their 150th anniversary.

Cleveland Institution of Engineers celebrates 150 years

As part of the celebrations, the Institution arranged for a commemorative stained glass window to be made and installed at St Cuthbert's Church, Marton (near Middlesbrough).  The window was designed and made by Saltburn glass artist Chloe Buck, and installed during the summer, and represents the CIE's crest, highlighting its roots within Teesside's iron and steel industry.

On Sunday 23 November, the Bishop of Whitby, the Very Reverend Paul Ferguson, conducted a dedication service in the church.

A representative of the IOP, along with those from other local learned institutions, companies and educational establishments, joined the CIE and the congregation of Marton for the service.

As the Bishop stated, the window is not a memorial of an organisation past, as can often be found, but a celebration of one which is very present and active in the Teesside area - and that hopefully has a long future ahead of it.
