An encounter with Sir George Cayley with Jim Matthew

Prof. Jim Matthew from the department of Physics at the University of York gave an insightful and memorable talk about Sir George Cayley and his work regarding the foundations of powered human flight.

The talk was given in the wonderful victorian surroundings of the Mining Institute. Prof. Matthew gave descriptions of the experiments that Sir George Cayley had carried out to determine how lift and drag forces affect flight and how they can be adjusted. 

In addition videos of flights of a reconstructed Cayley glider (carried out in the 1970s) were shown and these revealed how far Cayley had progressed in his efforts.
