North East company receive prestigious innovation award

Tracerco, founded in Billingham 55 years ago, received a prestigious IOP innovation award at a ceremony in London last night.

The citation for the award read:

"For the development of a gamma radiation-based thickness measurement system which has enabled significant increases in efficiency in the petrochemical industry."

The ceremony took place at the Lancaster Hotel in Central London in front of a large audience, with the awards being presented by the Institute's President, Francis Saunders CB.

The keynote speaker for the ceremony was Prof. Sir John O'Reilly, who spoke about his role as Director General for Knowledge and Innovation, and highlighted some of the challenges facing research, industry and education in the coming years.
