Retired Members Section (REMS)
REMS-LSE is a local organisation for retired members of the Institute of Physics in the London and South East Branch which aims to provide cultural, educational, scientific and social opportunities for retired members of the Institute of Physics achieved by organising a series of activities throughout the year.

The IOP has nearly 4,700 retired members (identified as all those over 70 as well as those that have self-declared themselves as being retired) and, notwithstanding the distances involved, all retired members of the IOP are welcome at REMS-LSE events.
Structure
REMS-LSE is organised and run by members of the London and South East Branch but shortly will join the new Retired Members’ Network (REMN) and, cooperating with other interested local bodies of the same kind, will help to extend retired members’ activities to the whole of the United Kingdom.
REMS Activities
Over the years, REMS-LSE has organised a number of memorable visits/events. Some that stand out are:
- Hydrological Research, Wallingford
- Hampton Court
- The Cabinet Room at 10 Downing Street
- CERN
- Cambridge Biomedical Campus
- Full day’s programme (‘At Home’) on Medical Imaging
- A walk and charity BBQ
- An annual Christmas Lunch

Retired members of the IOP are automatically recognised as members of REMS-LSE and are able to register themselves and any guests for events in our programme. The programme for upcoming REMS-LSE events can be found on the IOP Events page. Guidance Notes for booking events are available.
The FAQs page contains answers to commonly asked questions.
We look forward to seeing you at one of our future events. In the meanwhile, please contact your Branch committee and/or contact the national REMN committee with a view to setting up a local REMS section.
Finally, we rely on our members to organise events so if you have an event you believe REMS members would be interested in, do please contact the L&SE events coordinator, Tony Colclough.
REMS-LSE Committee Membership
Members of the L&SE REMS committee are drawn from a catchment centred on London – mainly from the London and South East Region but also from elsewhere.
The current (2018) committee membership is as shown below. However, we are always open to fresh volunteers who would like to contribute to the wellbeing of retired physicists.
A recent comment from a former committee member was that “joining REMS has (significantly) improved my retirement”.
