The Blue Plaque in honour of Sir Fred Hoyle

A Blue Plaque in honour of Sir Fred Hoyle was recently unveiled at Bingley Grammar School where he was educated.

The blue plaque unveiling took place on the 16th July 2009 at midday. The plaque was unveiled by Dame Jocelyn Bell Burnell (and Olivia Jinks the great grandaughter of Fred Hoyle) – the president of the IoP. Before the unveiling, Simon Mitton gave a short speech about the achievements of Sir Fred Hoyle.

The Yorkshire Branch were pleased that several family members of Fred Hoyle and former students and friends of Fred Hoyle - Prof. Chandra Wickramasinghe and his wife Priya were able to attend the event.

It is hoped that the Blue Plaque will be an inspiration to future students at Bingley Grammar School.
