Visit to Bristol Laboratory for Advanced Dynamics (BLADE)

Bristol Laboratory for Advanced Dynamics (BLADE) is Bristol University’s £18.5m research facility, opened by Her Majesty the Queen in February 2005.

Based on the visionary plans formulated in 1999, BLADE now provides unique capabilities for studying the dynamics of structures and machines ranging across the entire engineering spectrum in two superbly equipped laboratory buildings.

A number of major research centres have been established at Bristol University, with BLADE playing a role. These include the Advanced Composites Centre for Innovation and Science (ACCIS); Rolls-Royce Composites UTC (University Technology Centre); and AgustaWestland University Technology Centre in Rotorcraft Vibration. From July 2007, Professor David Ewins has been appointed director of BLADE.
