Over 60? Then why not get active in the Retired Section!
The Retired Members' Section was formed recently, with a view to provide extra events for members more likely to be available during the day. A survey has shown that members prefer to travel to events no more than about 20 miles from home, so mailshots advertising events are restricted to the area around the venue.
The branch's retired section is for anyone in the branch who is 60+, but there may be a few of you who are still working who can join us on these occasions. We organise about three daytime events a year - visits seem to be popular - largely because, when organised during the day, retired members have more time available to take part. Our recent activities range from very successful visits to the Physics Research Labs at Kings College to a behind-the-scenes tour of Glyndebourne Opera House.
We are looking for Branch members who would be willing to take on the organisation of events for the Retired Members' Section and to get involved in other ways. Three events a year is probably the minimum, but the total of events would be largely up to the organiser and the support he or she has within the Branch.
As an organiser, you would be eligible for co-option onto the Branch Committee, but this is not essential. Publicity outlets are available through the Branch newsletter, the Branch web pages and by email through Institute of Physics facilities.
