In 2008 Council decided to establish the Chadwick medal and prize

Terms
The award shall be made for distinguished research in particle physics. The medal will be accompanied by a prize of £1000 and a certificate.

For his crucial role in the design and construction of CMS; one of the main experiments which start operation at the LHC this year.
