Undergraduate Research Bursary

The IOP working with the Nuffield Foundation are now offering bursaries to undergraduate students to fund short summer research placements.

This scheme is a continuation of the Nuffield Foundation’s very successful Undergraduate Research Bursaries programme, which has been running for nearly 20 years. This year, the IOP will be working jointly with the Foundation to offer up to 70 physics specific bursaries.

These bursaries are intended to offer support to undergraduate physics students* in the middle year of their course, to undertake a 6 – 8 research placement within a university department, working on actual research projects. Bursaries are aimed at students who may be considering a research career, to give some hands-on experience in a real-life research environment. Bursaries cover a defined research placement and applications must be submitted by supervisors. The bursary is worth £180 per week (£190 in London) for up to 8 weeks.

The scheme has now closed for 2012. Applications for 2013 summer bursaries will open at the end of 2012. For general enquiries about the scheme, please contact supportandgrants@iop.org.

*students must be studying on an IOP accredited physics degree.
