Science Board
The Science Board has delegated authority from Council to develop Institute policy pertaining to physics and physicists in higher education institutions and public sector research establishments. Among a range of activities, the Board promotes the role of physics in contemporary society, and keeps abreast of, and responds to, public policy issues that affect the funding and working practices of physicists.
The Science Board's responsibilities are to:
- develop science strategy and the recommendation of projects within the available resources to Council for its consideration and agreement
- develop policy in areas directly relevant to science and the recommendation of policy to Council for its consideration and agreement
- advise on the science programme of activities to achieve the goals and strategy agreed by Council
- report to Council on the progress of the science programme in implementing the Institute’s Strategy
- provide expert input and analysis to inform external responses to consultations and inquiries and advise on the approval of content prior to submission
- consider issues of diversity and inclusion within science in so far as it impacts upon the Board’s activities
- liaise with other Boards of Council as appropriate
- consider other matters as requested by Council
