The Hoyle medal and prize

In 2008 Council decided to establish the Hoyle medal and prize.

Sir Fred Hoyle was a British astronomer and mathematician best known for his seminal contributions to the theory of the structure of stars and on the origin of the chemical elements in stars

The award is made biennially in even dated years.

Terms
The award shall be made for distinguished research in astrophysics, gravitational physics or cosmology. The medal will be accompanied by a prize of £1000 and a certificate.
