Institute of Physics News
Tue, 3 November 2009
The Institute of Physics (IOP) has responded to the First Secretary of State, Lord Mandelson’s, new framework for the future success of higher education. The new framework, entitled Higher Ambitions, was unveiled in the House of Lords today, Tuesday, 3 November.
Dr Robert Kirby-Harris, chief executive at the IOP, said, “In these difficult economic times it is reassuring to hear the First Secretary of State stress the need for more STEM graduates; graduates equipped with the skills successful businesses need. It is also encouraging to know the Government will be putting further weight behind efforts to ensure that our students are given the right advice on the real opportunities that arise from taking different subjects at school.
“We feel, and the evidence backs us up, that physics and other STEM subjects shine out as very strong options to take.”
