Institute of Physics Press Release

PR40 (09)

Thu, 23 July 2009

The Institute of Physics (IOP) welcomes yesterday’s launch of the Science and Technology Facilities Council vision ‘A New Vision for New Times’.

IOP Chief Executive Bob Kirby-Harris said, “We share the STFC’s vision that continuous investment in physics will be a key strategy in solving the global challenges facing our society today, from the recession to climate change and security. To enable this, despite the economic downturn, it is crucial that the government continues to fund increases in basic science in line with the Science and Innovation Framework 2004-2014.”

“We are looking forward to working with the STFC and the community it supports to promote the benefits of physics research as a key contributor to the UK's economy.”
