General information
Searching is case-insensitive, where keywords entered are all in the same
case.
So that a search for tokamak OR TOKAMAK will find all articles
containing 'tokamak', 'Tokamak', or 'TOKAMAK'. However, a search on 'Tokamak'
will retrieve only sites only including the word 'Tokamak'.
Stem Searching
Searching for Toka* will find 'Tokamak', 'Tokamaks' etc.
How to search for several
words at once
The system can search for several words at once and by default will treat
the words you enter as a phrase. So the search joint european torus
is treated as "joint european torus" and will only yield hits which
match this exact phrase with no words in between.
How to use AND, OR and
NOT
The operators AND, OR and NOT can be used to define the relationship between
search terms. For example:
- tokamak AND transport finds articles containing both 'tokamak' and 'transport'.
- tokamak OR transport finds articles containing 'tokamak', 'transport', or both.
- tokamak NOT transport finds articles in which the word 'tokamak' appears, but the word 'transport' does not.
Sorting Search Results
Search results are sorted by relevance order by default, with the latest
articles displayed first on the list. Relevance is calculated based on
the number of times your key words appear in the fields searched.
To sort by date select this option from the drop-down
list. The search results list will then be presented with the most recent
articles first.
Limit which fields to
search
By default every field will be searched (including the help files). By selecting
the 'Limit to the following' radio button you may narrow your search to
a selection of fields. Choose from:

Select to search author names. An author's name may be stored using given names or initials so you may find that a search for John Smith may fail where a search for J* Smith or just Smith will succeed |

Reference Number |
Search for the reference number. Format is JET-P(98)04. Please ensure the parenthesis are included |
Limit the Years searched
By default all available years will be searched.
To limit the date range, choose a start year and
end year from the drop-down boxes. The entire year Jan - Dec will be searched.
To select one year only choose the same year in each drop-down box. To search
to the present day leave the end date box empty.
