Physica Scripta

Physica Scripta is published by the IOP on behalf of the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences for the Science Academies and the Physical Societies of the Nordic Countries.

PS anniversary logo
Scientific publication from the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences began in 1903 with Arkiv för matematik, astronomi och fysik that collected results in the fields of mathematics, astronomy and physics. In 1949 this single journal was divided into 4 independent publications covering astronomy, physics, geophysics and mathematics respectively. The physics journal, Arkiv för fysik, published 40 volumes until being replaced by Physica Scripta in 1970. Since then Physica Scripta has continued to grow in strength, content, distribution and prestige throughout the years and will be celebrating 40 glorious years of successful publishing during 2010.

NEW Most Cited papers

This collection covers the most cited papers from 1970 to 2009, as listed in the ISI Web of Science.

Comments

These should describe the current thinking of leading researchers on outstanding problems. They may include discussion of open questions, questions that recent work has apparently closed, important new applications, new theoretical or experimental approaches, or predictions of future developments. Comments are meant to bridge gaps in readers' knowledge and provide insight into problems, methods and results in different areas of physics.

There are 5 sections: Atomic, Molecular and Optical Physics (CAMOP); Condensed Matter Physics (CCMP); Nuclear and Particle Physics (CNPP); Plasma Physics and Controlled Fusion (CPPCF); Astrophysics and Cosmology (CAC)

Comments sections to be published during 2009 include: Directory of all Comments published in previous years (2003 - present).

Topical Issues

These volumes, published separately from the regular journal issues, contain invited presentations and/or poster contributions from international conferences. One volume each year contains the published proceedings from the annual Nobel Physics Symposium.

Provisional Topical Issues for publication include:

  • 2nd International Conference on Turbulent Mixing and Beyond
  • Star-forming Dwarf Galaxies
  • 16th Central European Workshop on Quantum Optics
  • T140: 3rd International Symposium on Functional Materials
  • T139: 23rd Nordic Semiconductor Meeting
Topical Issues published in 2009 were: Topical Issues published in 2008 were: Directory of all published Topical Issues

In case you wish to view a Topical issue but cannot quite remember the 'T' number, this directory lists the entire set published from 1982 to the present day. The Introduction, Preface or Foreword for each Issue is free to read to give you some idea of the content.
