For authors

EPL publishes original, high-quality Letters in all areas of physics, ranging from condensed matter topics and interdisciplinary research to astrophysics, geophysics, plasma and fusion sciences, including those with application potential. Articles must contain sufficient argument and supporting information to satisfy workers in the field, and must also be of interest and relevance to wider sections of the physics community. In order to comply with general interest, special care should be directed to the introduction and conclusion sections of the articles. Both should be clearly written in a style comprehensible to the general physics community.

Open Access opportunities

A single-article fee of €1,000 ($1,330) can be paid by individuals who choose to have their article published in EPL freely accessible by all. For full details read the January 2008 Publisher's Note. Details of how to proceed with open access payment are available on the Open Access Form at the Editorial Office website.

Note: for all experimental and theoretical letters published in PACS codes 10 and 20 EPL is delighted to offer open access free of charge. This offer will remain open until the SCOAP3 agreement at CERN takes effect. See article on news section of homepage for further details.

Submission guidelines

Details on preparing, submitting and tracking the progress of your manuscript from submission to acceptance are available on the EPL Editorial Office website:

Acceptance stage

Following acceptance, articles are forwarded to the EPL Production Office. Once your article has been accepted for publication you can track the progress of your article to its final publication on the EPL Production Office website (your EPL password is required).

Transfer agreement

EPL has a mutual transfer of manuscript agreement with several not-for-profit Society journals: the Journal of Physics series, Classical and Quantum Gravity, Plasma Physics and Controlled Fusion, Plasma Sources Science and Technology and also with commercial published journals: the European Physical Journal series. These agreements allow for the transfer of an article that would be more suitable to another journal, while retaining the original submission date. Read on for more information.
