Editorial information

J. Phys. B publishes articles covering the study of atoms, ions, molecules, condensates or clusters, their structure and interactions with particles, photons, fields and surfaces; also those aspects of spectroscopy, quantum optics and non-linear optics, laser physics, astrophysics, plasma physics, chemical physics, optical cooling and trapping and other investigations where the objects of study are the elementary atomic, ionic or molecular properties of processes.

About the Journal
The journal publishes research papers, Fast Track Communications (FTCs), topical reviews and tutorial articles. We attend and sponsor a number of conferences to keep up to date with the latest developments and to maintain our links with the AMO community.

Forthcoming Special Issues

Few Photon Optics: Now published online

Guest Editors

  • Dr Gaétan Messin, Universite de Paris-Sud, Orsay, France
  • Professor Barry C. Sanders, University of Calgary, Calgary, Canada
  • Dr David Petrosyan, Foundation for Research and Technology, Heraklion, Greece
  • Professor John Rarity, Bristol University, Bristol, UK

This special issue is devoted to the recent advances in quantum photonics, which have allowed the creation and study of various states of light containing one, two and few photons.

Attosecond and X-ray Free Electron Laser Physics: Now published online

Guest Editors

  • Dr R Moshammer, Max-Planck-Institut für Kernphysik, Heidelberg, Germany
  • Professor J Ullrich, Max-Planck-Institut für Kernphysik, Heidelberg, Germany

The scope of this special issue will cover areas of current interest in the field including: multi-photon processes in atoms; molecules and clusters from the visible to the x-ray regime; femto- and attosecond pump-probe methods; generation of high harmonics and attosecond pulses.

Modern Applications of Trapped Ions: Now published online

Guest Editors

  • Dr Martina Knoop, PIIM, CNRS-University of Provence, Marseille, France
  • Dr Laurent Hilico, LKB, University of Evry, France
  • Dr Jürgen Eschner, ICFO, Barcelona, Spain

This special issue reflects the contents of the workshop held in May 2008 in Les Houches focusing on novel ion trap design, quantum information, metrology, and molecules and interactions. Contributions from related fields involving trapped ions will complete the state-of-the art picture of modern trapped ion spectroscopy.

High Precision Atomic Physics: Due to be published April 2010

Guest Editors

  • Professor Alan Hibbert, Queen’s University Belfast, Belfast, Northern Ireland
  • Professor Walter Johnson, University of Notre Dame, Notre Dame, USA
  • Professor Wolfgang Wiese, National Institute of Standards and Technology , Gaithersburg, USA

This special issue is devoted to precise measurements and calculations of various atomic properties featuring new or improved methods that are producing highly precise fundamental atomic data. Call for Papers

Spectroscopic Diagnostics of Magnetic Fusion Plasmas : Due to be published June 2010

Guest Editors

  • Rudolf Neu, Max-Planck-Institut für Plasmaphysik, EURATOM Association, Germany
  • Hugh P. Summers, University of Strathclyde, UK
  • Yuri Ralchenko, National Institute of Standards and Technology, USA

One of the biggest challenges of the field is the development of new diagnostic techniques for the next generation of fusion devices. The emphasis of the forthcoming J. Phys. B Special Issue will be on presentation of new and improved experimental and theoretical ideas and techniques in spectroscopic diagnostics of MCF plasmas.
