BEC Matters!
A special service for the Bose-Einstein condensation and related research communities. In a fast moving, inter-disciplinary research area like Bose-Einstein condensation and cold atom research, it is sometimes difficult to keep track of all the resources available. Significant articles are published across a number of our journals and setting up a search can be time consuming. By collecting the articles together, this service aims to make it easier for you to find what you need!

Display options
In addition to the easy access to IOP journal articles, BEC Matters! also includes:
- A handy e-mail alerting service to keep you up-to-date with newly published articles
- A powerful search facility for BEC Matters! content
- Links to essential web sites packed with information on the latest events and links to groups working in this area.
- Proquest Dissertations containing abstracts and citation information of thesis work in BEC and cold atom trapping research dating back to 1968.
- Conferences A list of conferences presenting Bose-Einstein condensation work or related work.
We have set up BEC Matters! as a resource for our readers and our authors. If there is something you would like added to the site, or if you have any suggestions or you would like to know more about the conference service, please email becmatters@iop.org.
Flatland Physics Probes Mysteries of Superfluidity If physicists lived in Flatland—the fictional two-dimensional world invented by Edwin Abbott in his 1884 novel—some of their quantum physics experiments would turn out differently (not just thinner) than those in our world. The distinction has taken another step from speculative fiction to real-world puzzle with a paper from the Joint Quantum Institute (JQI) reporting on a Flatland arrangement of ultracold gas atoms. This news was reported in NIST TechBeat March 2009
Simply weird stuff: Making supersolids with ultracold gas atoms Physicists at the Joint Quantum Institute have proposed a recipe for manipulating ultracold mixtures of atoms into a 'supersolid,' an exotic state of matter that behaves simultaneously as a solid and a friction-free superfluid. This news was reported in NIST TechBeat January 2009

UltraCold Atom News
(UCAN) site is a community resource for researchers working in the field of quantum degenerate gases (ie, cold quantum gases). Reports of Bose-Einstein Condensation (BEC) and Fermi Degenerate Gases (FDG) observations are submitted by researchers. In this way we hope to continue the tradition of the Georgia Southern University (GSU) BEC Homepage, expect extended to include Fermi gases, molecular condensates, and Fermi condensates in the BEC/BCS crossover. The site also maintains a list of research groups active in the field , job postings , and conference listings .
arXiv.org the original and the best e-print server! Hundreds of articles are posted on the site each month, across many areas of physics, including condensed matter, quantum physics and atomic physics .

Research groups working with atom traps. This Web site is regularly updated and contains a comprehensive list of groups working with atom traps across the world.
Atomic Physics on the Internet. This Web site is more plasma biased but it still contains many useful links to atomic physics sites worldwide as well as links to databases such as the Opactiy Project Database, the NIST PRD Databases and the GAPHYOR Data Centre.
International Cold Atom Network (INTERCAN). The aim of this network is to promote European Research and Education in the domain of Ultracold Dilute Atomic Systems and their Applications. It provides physicists with a European platform for information exchange and collaboration.
The Center for Ultracold Atoms (CUA) is a research community at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Harvard University that pursues scientific opportunities made possible by the advent of ultracold atoms and molecules.
INFM Research and Development Center on Bose-Einstein Condensation (BEC) promotes theoretical research on the various phenomena related to Bose-Einstein condensation and to the physics of cold atomic gases in traps.
The Australian Research Council Centre of Excellence for Quantum-Atom Optics (ACQAO) combines pre-eminent Australian theoretical and experimental research groups in quantum and atom optics. Its aim is to create a powerful network to advance the rapidly developing field of Quantum-Atom Optics.
