Abstract. The SU*(3) limit of the interacting boson model (IBM), which has been interpreted as a triaxial rotor configuration, is studied using the SD-pair shell model (SDPSM). The results show that the properties of this limit as realized within the boson picture can be reproduced well within a fermion framework.
