Abstract. The thermoelectric power and electrical conductivity of sintered powders of calcium oxide have been measured over the range of temperature from 325-725°C. The same properties of magnesium oxide powders have been measured from 590°C-870°C. The sign of the thermoelectric power of both oxides corresponded to n-type conductivity. For calcium oxide on `O'-nickel cores the variation in the conductivity and in the thermoelectric power with temperature showed the characteristics of a pore conductor.
