Non-existence of topological defects during inflation beyond the critical value

Abstract. Using a shooting routine calculation, Basu and Vilenkin introduced a critical value of topological defects during inflation. In this paper, we prove analytically the existence of the Basu - Vilenkin critical value. The thicker defects are smeared out by the expansion.
