Abstract. The propagation of electromagnetic radiation in the presence of incoming ionization fronts is studied using two approaches: (i) to do the analysis directly in the laboratory frame and (ii) to do the analysis first in the rest frame of the ionization front and then transform back to the laboratory frame. The two approaches produce the same formula for the coefficients of reflection, transmission and magnetic field.
