Abstract. A crossed-beam coincidence technique incorporating time-of-flight spectroscopy of the collision products has been used to study charge transfer and ionisation in collisions of H+ and He2+ with potassium atoms within the range 38-2070 keV amu. Separate cross sections for pure ionisation, transfer ionisation and electron capture leading to the formation of up to four-times ionised potassium have been determined and compared with the available theoretical estimates.
