Physical Aspects of Polymer Science (24th Biennial Meeting of the Polymer Physics Group)

Date:14 - 16 September 2009
Venue:Wills Hall, Bristol
Organised by:Polymer Physics Group of the Institute of Physics

Introduction

This conference is the 24th in a series of meetings dating back to the 1960s, when Andrew Keller and Ian Ward first established the Polymer Physics Group. The meeting has a broad remit, attracting delegates from across the polymer community, and providing a forum in which the younger members of the community can showcase their work. Ph.D. students are particularly encouraged to attend.

The format of the meeting involves four invited talks, presentation of the group’s Founders’ Prize and prize for Best Student Paper, as well as the DPOLY/PPG Exchange Lecture. The rest of the program will be filled with contributed talks and posters in sessions themed around the contributions of the invited lecturers.

The Invited speakers are:

  • Prof Mervyn Miles, University of Bristol, Physics Department
Scanning probe microscopy of biological polymers
  • Prof Henning Sirringhaus, University of Cambridge, Physics Department
Polymer physics insights into the device physics of organic transistors
  • Prof Ralph Colby, Penn State University, Materials Science and Engineering
Designing Ion-Containing Polymers for Facile Ion Transport
  • Prof Günter Reiter, University of Freiburg, Department of Physics
Cloning Polymer Single Crystals via Self-seeding

The 2009 Founders’ Prize lecture will be given by:

Prof. Athene Donald, FRS, University of Cambridge, Physics
Polymer Physics in a Biological Context

The 2009 DPOLY/PPG Exchange Lecture will be given by:
