IOP Conferences

Date: Wed, 6 December 2006
Venue: The Institute of Physics, 76 Portland Place, London
Organised by: BRSG: The Magnetic Resonance Group

Introduction

Advanced magnetic resonance methods are being increasingly applied to complex or disordered condensed phases. Often they provide crucial information on local structure that can link structure to physical properties in materials where conventional techniques have difficulty. The recent development of magnetic response calculations  in periodic systems (chemical shifts) has given new impetus to the study of condensed phases. It has brought NMR into to closer collaboration with modelling and diffraction studies as the interpretation of NMR shifts is no longer empirical and can be tested theoretically. At this meeting, we invite contributions on the application of such techniques to the study of materials and the application of distance measurement and measures of the relative disposition of atoms by dipolar and multiple resonance techniques. Or, any advanced NMR method that leads to significant understanding of material properties. It is hoped that the meeting will also appeal to the condensed matter scientist wishing to know what can be done with modern NMR experiments and calculations.
