Printing is the art of putting small quantities of material on a surface in a patterned manner. Most often the material is deposited as a liquid. Once a liquid drop or collection of drops is on the surface interactions with that surface lead to a redistribution of the liquid driven by wetting, Laplace pressure, Marangoni forces or by thermal or concentration gradients. Practically, most often it is preferable to suppress these flows by drying, absorption or solidification in order that the final print has the highest quality.
The meeting seeks to bring together scientists, engineers and mathematicians working on processes relevant to the impact, spread and collective behaviour of liquid drops on surfaces within the context of printing, in order to both discuss current progress and to foster collaboration from fundamental science through to application.
The topics discussed will be of relevance to printing of both visual images and functional products such as flexible electronics.
Contributions for oral presentations are invited. Please submit your abstract by e-mail to jon.mackew_AT_iop.org
The abstract submission deadline is 2 June 2008.
Abstracts should be a maximum of 250 words in length and may include up to three references, and one figure. Please submit as a Microsoft Word document.
