Accommodation

Accommodation will be provided in modern en-suite rooms (private facilities) at St. Catherine's College.

• Arrivals and Check- In
  Bedrooms are generally available from 14:00 on the day of arrival. Residential guests should go to the main reception to collect their room keys. The College does not operate a hotel keyboard system and participants are asked to keep their keys during their stay.  All bedrooms are en-suite and equipped with tea and coffee making facilities, soap, linen and towels.
  
  
• Departure and Check- Out
  Residential guests are asked to vacate their bedrooms and return their keys to reception by 10:00 on the morning of their departure. A charge of £20.00 will be incurred if a key is not handed in by 10:00, and an additional day's charge will be incurred if a room is not vacated in time for it to be ready for the next guest. Luggage may be left in the luggage room at reception.
  
  
• Queries
  The Porters Lodge is manned 24 hours a day and should be a residential participant’s first point of contact outside registration times or in case of emergency. The lodge’s telephone number is +44 (0)1865 271 700.  A free-phone is available in the porter’s lodge which can be used for arranging taxis.

Meals

All meals will be served in the college dining room at the times indicated below, except for the conference dinner which will be at the later time of 20:00:

All refreshments will be served in the foyer of the Bernard Sunley building at the times indicated in the programme.

General Information

Public telephones
There are two card operated pay phones in the Junior Common Room and one in the Bernard Sunley Lecture Theatre foyer. Cards can be obtained from the Porter’s Lodge. There are no coin operated phones in the college.

Cloakroom facilities
A coat rack will be available in the foyer of the BernardSunleyBuilding. Items are left at the owner’s risk.

Messages
A message board will be placed near the conference registration desk. Participants should check regularly for messages, as an attempt to locate participants during session times will only be made in case of emergency.  The registration desk phone number +44 (0)1865 271758 will be manned during registration desk open times.  Outside these times urgent messages can be passed on through the Porters’ Lodge on +44 (0)1865 271 700.

College Facilities
All participants are welcome to use the College’s gym facilities and squash courts. The key for these facilities is available from the Porters' Lodge. Please note that the gym and squash courts are used entirely at the individual's own risk as it is not possible to provide gym inductions during conference time.  The College also has a small number of its own punts for hire - details are available from the Porters' Lodge.

Internet Access
Wired and wireless internet access is available in all bedrooms.

For wired access, computers should be set to automatically obtain an IP address by DHCP. Users need an Ethernet patch lead which should be plugged into any ODD numbered network socket. The sockets are situated in the skirting board of each room.Participants can either use their own leads, or they are available to purchase for £5.00 from the Porter's Lodge.

For wireless access, users need a user name and password, which they should get from the conference registration desk. It should be noted that the reception quality of wireless access may vary in some rooms, depending on the distance to a transmitter.

The College reserves the right to monitor any network connection to the extent required to ensure compliance with these regulations.  The College reserves the right to terminate any connection without prior notification if in the view of the College there is sufficient evidence of a breach of these regulations.

Bar Facilities
The Junior Common Room and bar are available to participants as a social area during the conference. Bar sales are on a cash basis. The bar is open daily from 18:00 – 23:00.

Medical
The College Medical Officer can be reached through the Porters Lodge. There is a first aid box in the lodge.

Fire and Evacuation Procedures
Please refer to the fire and evacuation procedures available in the Bernard Sunley Lecture Theatre. Residential Guests should also refer to the relevant notice in their rooms.

General
St. Catherine’s College operates a strict non-smoking policy.

Travel directions

By rail

By coach/bus
Two companies run frequent buses, 24 hours a day, between London (Victoria Bus Station) and Oxford. These are the Oxford Bus Company telephone 01865 785 400, and Oxford Tube telephone 01865 772 250. There are also direct and regular services to Oxford from Heathrow and Gatwick airports operated by the Oxford Bus Company telephone 01865 785 400.

By car
From London and the East
Leave the M40 motorway at Junction 8 signposted Oxford A40. Continue for approximately 5 miles; the A40 meets the Green Road roundabout, go straight across, following signs for Headington and the City Centre; continue straight on for 2 miles through Headington until you reach another roundabout - The Plain - and take the last exit. Cross Magdalen Bridge, and at the traffic lights turn right into Longwall Street and take the first right into Manor Road after St Cross Church. Cross the river and you have arrived.

From the South
Leave the A34 at the first Oxford exit. At the roundabouts follow signs for the city centre. Pass the Park & Ride on your left, take a right at the second set of traffic lights into Donnington Bridge Road. At the lights turn left, continue straight on until you reach a roundabout - The Plain. Go straight over and cross Magdalen Bridge; at the traffic lights turn right into Longwall Street and take the first right into Manor Rd after St Cross Church. Cross the river and you have arrived.

From the North
Leave the M40 at Junction 9, following signs for Oxford A34. Continue for approximately 8 miles, then take the Oxford/ Cheltenham exit. At the Pear Tree roundabout take the second exit. At the next roundabout (Wolvercote) take the second exit along the A40, following signs to M40 London. At the next roundabout take the right exit, following signs for Summertown and the City Centre. Continue for approximately 2 miles, then turn left into Parks Rd (opposite church). Pass the Park and Museum on the left, and take the next left into South Parks Road. The road bends sharply right, past more playing fields; take the next left into Manor Road just before the road bends sharply right again. St Catherine's is ahead of you.

From the West
We recommend that visitors bypass the City and approach from the North. Leave the M4 at Junction 15 and follow signs for Oxford A420. Continue along the A420 for approximately 30 miles. Rather than continue through the western side of the City, at the A34 interchange, head north following signs for M40 but leave at the next exit. At the Pear Tree roundabout follow signs to City Centre, passing the services and Park and Ride; at the next roundabout (Wolvercote) take the second exit. From here follow directions as from the North. For those approaching on the A40,cross straight over the Wolvercote roundabout and follow the directions as from the North

Parking
Car parking at the college is only available for those with special requirements. To arrange a parking space, please e-mail claire.garland@iop.org to see whether arrangements can be made. On foot
St Catherine's is on the periphery of the City Centre and we do recommend that visitors arriving at the bus or train station take a taxi to the College, especially if they are bringing luggage. However for those who are keen to walk the following directions apply:

From the City Centre
The City Centre to St Catherine's will take between 15 and 20 minutes. Most local bus stops are located on Cornmarket and Queen Street, and national buses arrive at Gloucester Green Bus Station on George Street. From any of these, you should make your way to Broad Street (opposite Debenhams). Continue to the end of Broad Street, (past the Sheldonian Theatre on the right). At the traffic lights go straight on into Holywell Street, and at the end of this turn left into St Cross Road. Cross the road at the pedestrian crossing (St Cross Church is on your right) and take the next main right into Manor Road. Go over the bridge and St Catherine's is on your right.

From the Train Station
Taxis are recommended from the station, but if you are happy with a 30 minute walk, turn left as you leave the station area. The Royal Oxford Hotel is directly in front of you; keep left and walk along Hythe Bridge Street, (past Blackwells Bookshop on the left). At the end walk straight across into George Street. At the end of George Street Debenhams Store is on the left - from here walk straight over into Broad Street and follow the directions as from the City Centre.
