How to get to the University of Surrey

By Bus

The University is served by 5 different bus routes (Service numbers: 3, 26, 27, 36 & 37), which are all operated by Arriva Buses.

Service numbers 3, 27 & 37 embark from the Friary bus station in Guildford town centre throughout the day. These buses call at Guildford Railway Station before arriving at the University campus on Stag Hill. The 37 bus continues on to Manor Park. During peak periods, the 36 bus will also serve both the Stag Hill and Manor Park sites from the bus station and via the main railway station.

Return journeys to the station or town centre can be made using service numbers 3, 26 & 36. During peak periods, the 37 will also travel from the Stag Hill and Manor Park sites to town via the main railway station.

By Coach

National Express coach No 030 runs between Victoria Coach Station and Woodbridge Road, Guildford (opposite Ladymead Retail Park) every two hours from 9.00 to 19.00. Coaches run Monday to Sunday, journey time 60 minutes.

 

By Rail

Guildford is on the main London (Waterloo) to Portsmouth line, with a good service.

Fast trains to Waterloo take 32 minutes. There is an alternative line, with a slower service, via Cobham. Trains run every half hour from Aldershot, Farnborough and Reading, and every hour from Dorking, Redhill and Tonbridge.
From the train station:
By Bus Guildford Link Bus (leave the station by the footbridge and rear exit, cross main road to the bus stop).
By Taxi from main (eastern) exit
By Foot leave the station by the footbridge and rear (western) exit, turn right into Guildford Park Road, after 200 yards (just past the Evangelical Church), turn right via Borough Car Park (about 15 minutes).

 

By Road

If approaching from London (A3) or the M25 (Junction 10), remain on A3 until you reach the exit signed to Cathedral and University. Do not take the exit signed to Guildford.

If approaching from the A322 or A323 from Bagshot or Aldershot, at the A3 roundabout take the exit signed to Portsmouth, and then turn off the A3 at the first exit (signed to Cathedral and the University).

If entering Guildford from Horsham (A281) or Godalming (A3100), leave the gyratory system at the exit marked Farnham (A31). After approximately 200 yards, at the mini-roundabout, take first turning into Guildford Park Road and continue along Madrid Road to The Chase for a mile. At the roundabout take the third exit, into the University entrance.


By Air

The University is conveniently situated for both London Airport Heathrow and London Airport Gatwick. Arrival at Stansted or Luton airports will involve a long journey across London.

From London Airport Heathrow:

Rail-air link coaches leave Terminal 4 for Woking Station from 07.20 to 23.10, picking up from Terminals 2, 3 and 1. The journey to Woking takes 30-40 minutes. There are frequent trains from Woking to Guildford.

A taxi from the taxi rank at Heathrow will be very expensive, approximately £80. If you call a Guildford taxi to meet you at the airport they are much cheaper, approximately £35. You can find details of Guildford taxi firms at www.yell.co.uk or www.118.com

From London Airport Gatwick:
Gatwick Station is positioned in the South Terminal of the airport and provides direct rail-air link trains for Guildford hourly between 05.28 and 23.18 weekdays and 05.31 and 23.18 weekends, journey time 38 minutes.
