Forthcoming Institute Conferences

Date: Wed, 17 December 2008 to Thu, 18 December 2008
Venue: Village Hotel, Nottingham
Organised by: the Insitute of Physics

Introduction

A multidisciplinary conference on the science of imaging and data visualisation organised by the Institute of Physics.

Imaging and data visualisation have become the cornerstones of all branches of modern science from astronomy, through seismology, meteorology and medical imaging to optical and electron microscopy.  The ability of the human eye and brain to easily assimilate information presented as images means that visualisation is also important in scientific disciplines not traditionally concerned with imaging. Each area has developed its own solutions to specific challenges and the aim of this special conference is to provide a format in which experts and non-experts alike, from a wide range of backgrounds can exchange ideas and methods in image capture, image analysis and data presentation. The overall theme of the meeting is “how to maximise scientific understanding from data through visual representation and analysis”.  A series of high profile keynote speakers, covering a wide range of topics will aim to stimulate ideas and multidisciplinary activity. In addition a poster session will take place with brief oral summaries of each poster. With the broad range of topics to be discussed the meeting is open to all who wish to gain a deeper insight into some aspect of fundamental science through the use, and analysis, of images and graphical data.

Call for Abstracts

Abstract Submission deadline for poster presentations: 3 October 2008

Abstract submission
On-line submission
of abstracts is the preferred method. Please read the following instructions prior to submitting your abstract; failure to adhere to these instructions may result in your abstract being reproduced in sub-optimal quality.

  • Abstracts should be a maximum of 250 words
  • Four figure and ten references are permitted
  • Indicate the number of authors
  • Select to upload a word document* or submit plain text
  • Indicate which author is the corresponding and/or presenting author
  • Submit the title in lower case with only the first letter Capitalised

*Authors including figures or references are recommended to upload a word document file.

If you are unable to submit your abstract using the on-line tool, please send an electronic copy to jane.lowe_AT_iop.org. Please ensure that you include the relevant information as above.

Abstract confirmation

Authors will receive confirmation of their submission by e-mail which will include an abstract reference number (e.g. MD-806-01). Please quote your reference number when making subsequent enquiries. Notification of acceptance will be sent by 17 October 2008.
