General Information

The conference is organised by the Electrostatics Group and the Institute of Physics and continues the International Conference series on Electrostatics which takes place in the United Kingdom every four years. Static electricity is one of the oldest known physical phenomena and it has been studied since the time of the ancient Greeks. The subject remains one of great importance into the 21st Century. Indeed, research into MEMS, various aspects of bio-electrostatics and environmental electrostatics are becoming increasingly important, while ESD and electrostatic hazards continue to be major commercial and industrial issues.

The scope of the conference is broad, covering general electrostatics and a range of specialist topics relevant to current research and industrial concerns. Electrostatics 2007 will bring together experts from academia, research laboratories and industry. You will be ensured of a warm welcome to Electrostatics 2007 in the vibrant and historic city of Oxford, with its long and renowned reputation for academic excellence.

Instructions for Oral Presentations

Presentation Equipment
The lecture theatre will be equipped as standard with the following audio visual equipment:
- Overhead Projector
- Data Projector
- PC with PowerPoint facilities (Office 2003 and Windows XP)
- Laser Pointer

Should you wish to use any additional audio visual equipment or intend to present from a Macintosh computer, please contact andrew.martin@iop.org

Presentation Information
Please introduce yourself to the chairperson of your session, prior to the session commencing.

Speakers intending to use PowerPoint are asked to bring their presentations on CD or USB memory stick and pre-load them onto the PC located in the lecture theatre. Please save your presentation into the appropriate prenamed session folders that will be located on the desktop of the PC using your surname and initial.
Direct connection of personal laptops is an acceptable but not preferred alternative to this. If it is totally necessary for you to use your own laptop, please set it up in the break prior to your session. To maximise compatibility, particularly for the inclusion of multimedia components, PowerPoint presentations should have been saved using PowerPoints "Package for CD" facility.

The lecture theatre is quite large, therefore speakers intending to use overhead transparencies should ensure that the slide is legible if held at arms length.

Oral Presentations will be 30 minutes in duration (25 + 5 minutes for questions). Please prepare your presentation to match this time frame as the session chairs will be enforcing the allocated times. A digital clock will be available in the lecture theatre.

Instructions for Poster Presentations

Each poster board measures 2.0m high x 1.0m wide (portrait) and all posters must fit within these dimensions. The boards are velcro compatible and velcro will be provided. Each poster has been assigned a unique poster number (example P1.01) to assist poster presenters locate their board.

All posters will be displayed in Room A of the Bernard Sunley building and the foyer of the Bernard Sunley Theatre.

Each presenter is responsible for ensuring that their poster board is displayed in the correct session on the allocated board, as specified in the conference programme (available above). Presenters should utilise the morning or lunch break to erect their poster and ensure that the posters are removed at the end of the days proceedings.

Workshop

The workshop is aimed at those who wish to learn more about the principles of the subject and its implementation. The workshop will provide a discussion forum on the fundamentals, theory and hazards of electrostatics, and is sure to feature some memorable demonstrations.

For a programme of the workshop download the PDF document available here.

Speaker biographies and outlines of presentations are available in PDF format here.

The fees for attendance are as follows:

Attendance at the workshop only:£199.00 (plus VAT)
