Condensed Matter and Materials Physics 2008

Introduction

The annual Condensed Matter and Materials Physics (CMMP) conference is the national UK conference for all condensed matter and related physics. Sponsored by the Condensed Matter Division of the Institute, CMMP is one of the major events in the UK physics calendar. 

CMMP 2008 will be held at Royal Holloway, University of London, on Thursday 27th and Friday 28th March. A Student Day, specifically designed to help research students enhance their appreciation of the latest scientific issues, will be held on Wednesday 26th March. In 2008 the conference will celebrate the centenary of the first liquefaction of Helium, one of the most important events in condensed matter physics history. The event will also mark 60 years of the invention of the transistor and 50 years of BCS theory. All aspects of condensed matter and related physics are welcome.

The conference will comprise:

• A range of symposia focussing on current issues in condensed matter physics, formed from both invited and contributed talks.
• Plenaries, given by internationally recognised speakers, drawn from suggestions made by the community.
• Poster sessions, covering the broadest range of cutting edge research and designed to maximise participation.

Ranging from advanced applications to the most subtle quantum physics, CMMP is the most important annual gathering of the UK's condensed matter physicists. It also provides a key opportunity for research students to present their work, through both posters and symposia and with prizes for exceptional student work.

Contributions are invited for oral and poster presentations. Please see abstract submission for full details.
